SEM 2 WEEK 13

TITLE: Preparation for poster presentation

OBJECTIVE:
To create the poster of our circuit driver

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The poster is compulsory for presentation. At this week we need to submit the draft of poster to our supervisor. Here is the Draft

CONCLUSION
The poster is approved by supervisor. Need to get prepared for presentation.

SEM 2 WEEK 11 and WEEK 12

TITLE:
Testing the circuit driver with the BLDC motor

OBJECTIVE:
To determine the driver is functioning or not

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The driver was tested at UPM due to equipment and the suitable motor there. The arrangement for testing the circuit was arranged by my supervisor. Below is  the driver and motor connection.

l

CONCLUSION:
The driver was successful function. All the result recorded.

SEM 2 WEEK 9 AND WEEK 10

TITLE: Testing and troubleshoot the circuit

OBJECTIVE:
To test and analyze  the circuit

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The driver circuit was tested using oscilloscope. The hall sensor output signal was displayed by using the movement of magnet. As the hall sensor get supply from the battery, it should working properly. Below is the result of output signal from hall sensor and the measurement setup.

 Fig 1: Measuremant setup

Fig 2: Hall Effect Output Signal

CONCLUSION:
I had successfully design and fabricate the circuit driver for 1-phase BLDC motor as I get the output result from the testing.

SEM 2 WEEK8

TITLE:
Continue soldering components

OBJECTIVE:
To complete the circuit driver

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
At this moment, the circuit driver  had completely finished. I only need to troubleshoot the circuit to see whether the circuit is functioning or not. Below is the circuit that I already completed.

CONCLUSION:
I already completed The driver circuit and ready to test

SEM 2 WEEK 7

TITLE:
Correction on Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3

OBJECTIVE:
To do a correction on the report draft

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
This week, I focus on doing the correction the chapter stated above after my supervisor, Mr Suhairi give back the draft that I had submitted to him. Mr Suhairi told me about the mistake that I had done in my report. After discussed about the problem with Mr. Suhairi, I finally understand what need to be put in the that chapter. He also tell me to follow to standard format format at Unikl-BMI Final Year Project website.

CONCLUSION:
Redo chapter 1, 2 and 3 of the final year project and will submit to my supervisor in the following week.

SEM WEEK 6

TITLE:
 Continue Soldering the components

OBJECTIVE:
Put the components into PCB become actual circuit.

CONTENT/PROCEDURE :

I had misplace some of the component. The bridge (rectifier) is actually no need to attach in the circuit. Mr Suhairi  advised me to find another bride that suitable  with my circuit . I find it and  Rectifier 2W10 is most suitable.
Here is the circuit that 90 percent done and ready to test.

 CONCLUSION:

The driver circuit is ready to test with the motor.

SEM 2 WEEK 5

TITLE:
Soldering the components

OBJECTIVE:
Put the components into PCB become actual circuit.

CONTENT/PROCEDURE :
Before soldering process, I need to identify and study little bit about the components. Using the skill that I learn before, the process going smooth. If I make the wrong identification it will affect my circuit driver. I didn't cut the component's leg because need to show my adviser first to check the circuit and if  the mistake happens such as misplace the component's polarity, the correction can be done easily.

 CONCLUSION:

The progress for soldering process is about 70 percent done.

SEM2 WEEK 4

TITLE:
Fabricate the actual Printed Circuit Board

OBJECTIVE:

Convert the circuit into to PCB layout.

CONTENT/PROCEDURE :

Here is the PCB layout that I have draw using Livewire software, before fabricate the circuit into actual printed circuit board

CONCLUSION:
I had successfully fabricate the PCB of my 1phase BLDC circuit driver.

SEM2 WEEK 3

TITLE :

Design circuit diagram using Livewire software
OBJECTIVE :
To investigate the voltage output from the circuit before convert to PCB layout

CONTENT/PROCEDURE :

I had a problem to simulate the driver circuit  because one of the component which is IR 2110 is not in the library. I went to see Mr. Suhairi to tell him about this problem. We discuss and agree to not doing the simulation and told me to proceed with the actual circuit on the breadboard to test it before doing it on the pcb.

This figure show the 1 phase BLDC circuit driver using Livewire

CONCLUSION:

The objective of this week is to understand and investigate the output circuit using  software and replace the components that not available for before convert into PCB layout.

SEMESTER 2 WEEK 2

Title:Research information about the project.
Objective
:To ensure student understand about the project.

Discussion/Analysis:
This project will design the drive system for single phase brushless dc motor. The BLDC is droved to move in rotational.

Why use brushless DC motors ?

Brushless DC motors are synchronous motors suitable for use as a simple means of controlling permanent drives (e.g. ABS pumps, EHPS pumps, fuel pumps or cooling fans). This type  brushless DC motor will increasingly replace brushed DC motors. Brushed DC motors require maintenance, e.g. to service coal brushes and commutator. Another major problem with a brushed DC machine is the possibility of brush burnout in the event of an overload or stall condition.

The purpose of the development of the driving system is to control the speed of the motor. The main idea for controlling the speed of the motor is by controlling the switching of the power MOSFET.The power MOSFET will be control by MOSFET driver, while the MOSFET driver will be control by Logic-Gates which , and then the signal will be the input pulse to activate the MOSFET driver. To control the speed of the motor, the input voltage will be varied by user to desire speed.
